It's the little things

"Sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people." -Nicholas Sparks from The Lucky One
Having kids has taught me that its about the little things in life.  Seeing the excitement and wonder in my children's eyes is like nothing else in the entire world.  This past weekend was Mother's Day and we spent the weekend with my Mother-In-Law.  On Sunday morning, we took the kids to a park by the ocean and it was there that I watched my son put his hand in the ocean for the first time.  I loved watching the expression on his face as he felt just how cold it was and the intrigue in his eyes as he watched the seaweed sway back and forth with the waves.  We found shells and crabs and even flew a kite on the beach.  Firsts like that are memories that I will cherish long after he has grown.  Mother's Day could have been just another ordinary day but because I spent this day with the ones I love, it was extraordinary and a day I won't soon forget.

You're right. It is the little things -- that matter the most, that often mean the most.

Happy SITS Day... and Happy New Year!

It really is the little things. As a mom also, the excitement over going to the ocean the first time seems so much more special than the excitement for a new video game.

I experience the same thing at Christmas when the kids see the lights and decorations at our local college - the joy and wonder in their eyes means more than anything to a mom, for sure! Happy Sits Day!

I think one of the things that made it so special is that you noticed. You noticed the little things instead of just letting the moment pass you by. It sounds like you were fully there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like a beautiful day.

I have thought this every single day for the past 13 1/2 years I have been a mother. It's amazing what a gift the smile on our kids faces everyday truly is. Even on my worst day somehow the kids can make me laugh and smile. It's so important to remember that, especially as they turn into teenagers ;).

Happy SITS day.

Ah, the ocean and a child. When we first took our two year old to the ocean she ran on the sand all day. It was the most open space she had ever been to and she wanted it all. At 36 now, she wants to live by the ocean. Enjoy your SITS Day. A very nice blog.

The little things make the best memories. I can't wait to take my little one to the ocean this summer.

Ahh, I love the little things. We recently took our son to the aquarium. Watching his little face light up as the huge sharks swam by was just amazing. He was so excited. Happy SITS day!

I LOVE that quote and am currently trying to think of somewhere, somehow, to use it myself. The message is beautiful. I too enjoy the little things best. :) Happy SITS day!
