Where were you when...

Eleven years ago, I was a senior in high school and I was in my AP Physics class when I learned about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center.

Although it was a day that I won't soon forget, my English teacher gave us an assignment the next day to write our "where were you when..." story.  She had been given the same assignment when she was in high school right after the assassination of JFK.  Having that memory written down meant a lot to her and she felt that it was important for us to write out our impressions while they were still fresh in our minds.

While cleaning out our office last week, I found my story and although I feel as though I remember it as if it were yesterday, reading my own words really brought it all back and I will forever be thankful to my teacher for giving us that assignment.  I am glad that I will be able to share it with my kids some day.

I will never forget the events of that day and how they changed all of us in so many ways.  There were countless people who lost loved ones and they will forever be in my thoughts and prayers.  I will always be thankful for the people who have died fighting and for those who continue to fight for our freedoms.

Today we put aside our religious and political beliefs and we stand as the UNITED States of America!
